Surgery

Having a pet needing surgery can be stressful, especially when you are worried about them being put under anesthesia. We at Cheyenne Veterinary Wellness & Surgical Center in Pittsburgh, PA, offers various pet surgery options and does everything possible to reduce the risk. Your pet will be monitored by a member of the veterinarian team, watching for any problems, especially as the pet is waking up from anesthesia.

Surgery

What Is the Difference between Sedation and Anesthesia?

The pet will likely be put under general anesthesia when having pet surgery with us at our Cheyenne animal hospital. However, to put the pet under anesthesia, they will first be sedated, so a veterinarian on our team can adequately prepare your pet for anesthesia and surgery. Before putting the pet under anesthesia, the Cheyenne veterinary team will review the pet’s medical history and blood work to determine the best medications and sedation method for your pet.

Will My Pet Experience Pain?

Our Brentwood veterinary clinic will help ensure your pet is in as little pain as possible. When searching for a “vet near me,” ask us about the methods used to help keep your pet pain-free before, during, and after their surgery. Pain medications are given to your pet before surgery; if we deem it necessary, they may provide additional pain medications during and after the surgery. Medication and post-operative care instructions will be sent with you when your pet is released from our animal hospital.

Does Animal Surgery Have a Risk of Infection?

Surgery does have a risk of infection, but our Cheyenne veterinary team can do everything possible to sterilize surgical equipment to help kill germs and bacteria. Additionally, your pet may be prescribed or given antibiotics to help treat any infection during and after surgery. Your pet’s health is the top priority for v at our Cheyenne animal hospital, so if you have any concerns about infection, ask one of our staff members.
