Bloodwork

Just like humans, pets need bloodwork from time to time to check for undetected conditions. At Cheyenne Veterinary Wellness & Surgical Center, we offer bloodwork and more for pet owners in Pittsburgh and Brentwood. Our highly trained and experienced staff can take care of your pet's bloodwork quickly and easily. We will perform the blood draw with minimal anxiety and pain for your pet. The process should not take more than a few minutes. Once we've taken your pet's blood sample, we will run the necessary tests in our in-house diagnostics lab.

In-House Diagnostics for Quick Results

.

Many veterinarians send blood samples to outside labs for testing. This can be time-consuming, as it takes time for the sample to get to the lab, for the test to be conducted, and for the lab to contact the original veterinarian with the results. Instead of going through this long, drawn-out process, we test blood samples at our in-house lab. This enables us to get your pet's results much more quickly. It also enables us to control the testing process completely to ensure that everything is done properly.

At our in-house diagnostics lab, we can test your pet's blood for a variety of different conditions. If we are doing a general wellness check, we can test for anemia (low red blood cell count) or for a high red blood cell count, which could indicate dehydration. We can also test for hemoglobin, which is the oxygen-carrying capacity of your pet's blood. Our lab is also able to test for a high white blood cell count, which could indicate an infection, or for a low white blood cell count, which could indicate a damaged immune system. These are some of the most common tests we do at our in-house lab, but we are also capable of carrying out many other blood tests.
