Your pet deserves compassionate healthcare, and the Cheyenne Veterinary Wellness & Surgical Center provides affordable and high-quality treatment for pets in the Carrick and Pittsburgh areas. Pets are like people in that they need regular appointments for diagnosis of health conditions and preventative treatments. Wellness care checkups help you take the best care of your beloved pet.

How Often Does a Pet Need an Exam?

Our veterinarian recommends scheduling pet exams once per year. Yearly exams allow our veterinarian to diagnose and address any health conditions that may have developed since your pet’s last exam. Senior and newborn pets may need to come in more frequently as they are more susceptible to illness than healthy adult dogs.

What Happens During a Wellness Checkup?

A wellness checkup usually begins with a physical examination during which our veterinarian looks for growths, mobility issues, and signs of distress or pain in your pet. Our vet will ask questions about your pet's behavior like how often they eat or use the bathroom. Our vet will also take a look inside your pet's mouth to look for signs of gum disease. Our veterinarian provides a variety of preventative treatments during annual exams like vaccinations and treatment for parasites or fleas. If your pet has not been spayed or neutered, you may schedule these procedures at this time as well.

Special Care for Senior Pets Need

A senior wellness exam may involve bloodwork, allowing our veterinarian to look for the common ailments that impact older animals like cancer. Senior pets may also need more frequent visits if they have struggled with dental health issues and mobility difficulties.

Special Care for Young Pets

Puppies, kittens, and other young animals may need to frequently visit the animal hospital during their first year of life. Not only do they need a series of vaccines, but they may also need to be examined for congenital health issues like deformities of the limbs. Our veterinarian will ensure your new pet gets the best possible start in life.
